Brit Punk 1970's
British Punk 1970s
British punk rock emerged in
the mid-1970s as a rebellion against the social, political, and musical status
quo. It challenged the dominance of mainstream rock bands like Led Zeppelin and
Pink Floyd, which were seen as bloated and indulgent. Here are some of the
key characteristics of British punk: DIY Ethos:Punk bands often formed and
recorded their music independently, with a "do it yourself" (DIY) attitude. Fast
tempos and short songs: Punk music was typically fast-paced and aggressive, with
short, simple songs. Loud guitars and simple chord progressions: Punk songs
often relied on loud, distorted guitars and basic chord progressions.
Anti-establishment lyrics: Punk lyrics often dealt with social and political
issues, with a strong anti-establishment sentiment. Some of the most influential
British punk bands of the 1970s include:
The Sex Pistols: One of the most notorious punk bands, the Sex Pistols were fronted by the charismatic and controversial Johnny Rotten Aka John Lydon. Their song "Anarchy in the U.K." became an anthem for the punk movement.
The Clash: were a more politically conscious band than the Sex Pistols, and their music incorporated elements of reggae, dub, and other genres. Their song "London Calling" is considered one of the greatest punk albums of all time.
The Dammed:
release a single, "New Rose," in 1976. They were also one of the most
experimental punk bands, incorporating elements of horror rock and
psychedelic rock into their music. British punk rock had a profound impact
on popular culture, and its influence can still be seen in music,
fashion, and art today.
Hazel O'Connor: Was a Solo Artist who's Album Breaking Glass was taken from the Movie Of the Same Name "breaking glass" what I consider to be one of the great punk sound tracks of all time. Plot: The film depicts the rise and fall of Kate Crowley (Hazel O'Connor), an angry but creative young singer and songwriter. At the beginning of the film, she is discovered by Danny (Phil Daniels)
